BLACK DAY TMMK angles non-Muslim participation on Dec.6
The black day (Babri masjid demolition day), observed every year by the Muslim community since the demolition of the masjid in 1992, will have participation from nonMuslim communities, too, from this year.
Taking the new initiative to bring in not only political leaders of secular ideals, the Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), with like-minded social and political outfits in TN, is striving to ensure the participation of the general public from non-Muslim communities also in its demonstrations during this year's black day (Monday).
"We have taken this initiative to make the rulers and judiciary feel that the Babri masjid issue is not just the problem of Muslims but of the entire nation," said TMMK's state general secretary Hyder Ali. He hoped that the secular political leaders would insist their cadres and leaders join hands with Muslims like they do. Grassroots-level leaders of the TMMK have already started their work and are doing silent campaigns with select groups. Our immediate target are the lawyers from the non-Muslim community, said Mr I. Usman Khan, former Tirunelveli TMMK district secretary.
Ms Rahida Banu, a housewife of Palayamkottai, in Tirunelveli district, told DC said if at all the court wanted to settle the issue, it could have divided the land into two equal parts and handed it over to Hindus and Muslims.
